Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 18 April 2026
South West Community Studios CIC, trading as South West Studios, wants as many people as possible to be able to use this website. We're committed to making www.southweststudios.org accessible, and accessible to more people than the minimum required by law.
What we do
We aim for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard. In particular we try to make sure you can:
- Change colours, contrast levels, and fonts through your browser.
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard.
- Navigate most of the website using a screen reader (tested with VoiceOver and NVDA).
- Read most of the content in plain English.
What isn't accessible yet
We're an early-stage project and we know there are still gaps. Currently:
- Some older embedded images may not have alternative text. We're working through them.
- Some PDF and Word documents we've linked to were written before we adopted these standards and aren't fully accessible.
- The booking calendar uses small dots to show slot availability; we also show the same information as text when a day is selected, so no information is carried by colour alone — if you find a case where it is, please tell us.
If you find something that isn't accessible, we'd genuinely like to hear about it. Use the website contact form with what you were trying to do and what went wrong, and we'll do our best to fix it.
Reasonable adjustments
If you can't use the website, use the website contact form. We can help with booking requests, answer questions, and provide information in another format.
Please ask us for the information in another format if that helps — large print, plain text, audio, or anything else.
At the studio
The building has:
- Step-free access from the car park to the main entrance.
- An accessible toilet.
- Free parking.
If you have specific access needs for a session (ramps, hearing loops, quiet loading, etc.), please contact us before your booking and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Enforcement
The accessibility regulations that apply to public-sector websites don't apply to us, but we're choosing to follow similar standards voluntarily. If you're unhappy with how we've responded to an access issue, you can also complain to the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
How we test
We test the site in a mix of browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge), with keyboard navigation, and with VoiceOver on macOS. Automated testing is done using axe-core. We will add a formal manual audit as the site grows.
